How We Test

How We Test

First Off, Who Are We?
It’s a little known fact that most people on the web are not experts but merely people with an opinion. That being said, we are in that boat. We’re far from experts, but an average family that LOVES salsa. We eat it, make it, share it and cat about it, so in a way we are probably more expert-ish than most. That’s worth alot on the web, especially if we talk about it.

Testing
Salsa tasting is not just about stuffing a salsa-covered chip in your mouth and chomping away. It’s about smells, flavors and overall enjoyment. We’ll take these three areas and break them down for you.

Sniff Test
The sense of smell is the first thing our bodies pick up when we enter a room full of potpourri or drive past a pizza joint. It’s what gives us that first inclination whether or not we’re going to like something long before we see or taste it. So why not let our noses enjoy the complex smells of the salsa? Our household includes a very talented artist and a nerd, so popping open a jar of salsa and discussing it offers us all the chance to enjoy something we love while also providing the world with a review of the many salsas available on the market today.

Chip Test
Let’s face it, it would be so easy to just buy a bag of Tostitos Scoops and call it a day, but how many times have you been to a party and NOT had those salsa-boats available? I know I’ve been to plenty, so we decided to use a more common party chip that 1) is based on the standard tortilla chip, 2) is easy to find for most people and 3) it won’t alter the flavor of the salsa too much. After trying quite a few, we decided to go with Tostitos Crispy Rounds Tortilla Chips and Santitas Tortilla Triangles. Both are available for a reasonable price and come in massive bags. Win/win.

Taste Test
Uh, duh … what this whole site is about. Thankfully the wife and I have similar pallets, making taste testing an extremely enjoyable process. I wasn’t a big salsa person prior to meeting her, but it has now become a project, a fascination and a dream, if you will, to explore all the yummy salsas out there. We spend countless hours testing so you don’t have too. Hopefully we can help you find a salsa that suits you.
